Jerry Nelson — a ‘fine art photographer???

changeAny change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts. Arnold Bennett

I’m making an addition to my career.  Bear with me.

Being a photojournalist in Argentina is rough.  It’s impossible to get consistent gigs with newspapers here because I’m a foreigner and they have an ‘official’ policy not to hire foreigners.  The papers I have shot with have been great and have given me work ‘under the table’ and it’s kept a biscuit on the table.

But I need to do more.

I was chatting with a friend about this situation.  After taking a look at my work on the website, he suggested that I check out the idea of selling some of my photos online as ‘art’.  Now I never thought — and still don’t think — of myself as an ‘artist’.  Heck, I’m not even a photographer.  I’m just a guy with a camera that gets lucky and gets a decent shot every now and then

But after thinking about our conversation and what he said, I’ve decided to see if I could sell some of my photos online.  My friend believed in my work enough to even cough up the first years subscription fee, so starting today, you’ll be able to see — and buy — some of my stuff on posters, pictures and greeting cards.

A friend of mine, Art Scott is already selling prints through the website and it was a conversation I had with them that also encouraged me to move forward with this idea.  Click here  to see some of the work that Art has for sale.

Keep me posted and do me a favor, leave a comment letting me know what you think about this idea along with any tips for making a go of it with this new venture.

NOTE:  I’m NOT giving up on photojournalism  I’m just exploring ways to add another stream of income.  I’ll always be out there sticking my camera into peoples faces and scratching out a few lines of what my opinionated self thinks about the situation.  I’m still a few bucks shy of getting that new computer to replace the loaner that I’m on now  If you could throw a couple of dollars into the jar, well it sure would be appreciated.

  1. yes you are a PHOTOGRAPHER… and a very good one….at least you are not a P-CHOPPER and then telling the audience that your work is straight out of cam … damn I hate that….if it is shopped then it is not photo-journalistic….YOU GET IT RIGHT IN CAMERA….. that takes a lot of work and more importantly a lot of SKILL and brother you have SKILL…

  3. Hiya, I’m really glad I’ve found this information. Today bloggers publish just about gossips and web and this is really frustrating. A good site with exciting content, this is what I need. Thank you for keeping this website, I’ll be visiting it. Do you do newsletters? Can not find it. Rodolfo Swigert
