Oi gente!

So one of the things I mentioned as a side-note in my first post was ‘rich-poor’ buildings. By this I meant the contrast – and striking similarities- between the buildings inhabited by people from high and low-income backgrounds. Wednesday 17th was my second day in Rio, and I remember it being a day of great contrasts (then again Rio IS all about visible differences).  I started off waking up at Elisa’s cousins’ house in the rich part of Jacarépagua, in a 15th floor apartment, after a pleasant gathering with great Spanish wine the night before (a present from Elisa to her family). The building was part of a “condominio” which would be something like an apartment complex made up of several buildings. In this case the condominio was made up of six tall and luxurious apartment blocks surrounding a square that had everything anyone could ever wish for……
