An open letter to Tom

This morning on Facebook I posted an item about how the US Government in collusion with candy ass bankers conspired to monitor and overthrow the Occupy movement in America.  A friend from the days in Idaho posted and asked a very good question that I am taking this space this morning to answer.  The item I posted can be read here.

Hey Tom! Always good to hear form you and I appreciate your comments on Facebook today.

You asked a great question when you asked,

“But Jerry, in all seriousness, (he,he,) would one think it wise to post things like this ? You may just find yourself having an extended stay in the “Duty Free Zone” of the local airport! Good thing they got smokes !!!”

The short answer is simple.

Tom, I don’t know if it’s ‘wise’ or not. It would be alot easier — and some would say safer — to post cutesy little pics of kids and cats, but would that maybe stir the pot and get people to thinking? And Tom, you know me, I love to stir and agitate.

The longer answer is a little more complicated.

Tom, the country that I grew up in is personified by my hometown, Hot Springs, in Virginia.

A small place, more of a village than a town, Hot Springs was the real life “Lake Wobegone” where everyone knew everyone. Hell, Tom, when I was ten years old, I could walk down the street and tell you who lived in the house, where they went to church and probably what they had for dinner last night.

It was also the type of town than if I got a ‘whuppin’ at school, I’d not only get one when I got home, but the neighbors along the way would stop and want to know why I got in trouble.

America in the 60s was a great place to live. Sure there was Vietnam going on and protests all over the country, but people still knew where they stood and it was still a place where people, for the most part, tried to do what was right and not what was expedient.

We’ve lowered the expectations in America now to the lowest common denominator. Instead of raising the bar of acceptable behavior, we’ve constantly lowered it and made America a place where the only thing that matters is the iPhone in your hand, the big screen in your living room and where will you go on vacation this year.

While too many people have been buying things they can’t afford to impress people they don’t like, the US government has run amok with lawyers and bankers that are bound and determined to screw up the system and make the average taxpayer pay for it.

And they get away with it because most Americans have become too ignorant and apathetic; as more and more Americans become enthralled with their gadgets and toys and continue down the road of conspicuous consumerism, the government is taking what was once back room deals and screwing the American public out in the open.

I remember my DI (Drill Instructor) in bootcamp telling us one night, “Men, the most dangerous man in the world is the one that has nothing to lose.”

I’ve become that man Tom.

I’m 57 years old, I’ve survived a quadruple bypass, one walk across America and two bicycle trips across the United States. I’ve been caught in a buffalo stampede, spent weeks in the desert stuck between the Mexican drug cartel and vigilantes, spent three days stranded in the snow in the Rockies and picked up by the US Marshalls in Washington DC for taking photographs.

If I get a call today from some editor somewhere that wants me to be in Syria, Somalia, Egypt or somewhere else, I can pack everything I own in one duffle bag and sling it over my shoulder and catch the next plane out.

What have I got to lose?

Tom, I’m sick and tired. Sick and tired of seeing the country that I was raised in and served going down the crapper. I’m sick of seeing the lawyers and bankers ruin the country for personal gain and the economic benefit of their candy ass cohorts.

“We the People…” don’t run America anymore. It’s not a government “of the people”. It’s a government of the crooked elite who have been allowed to wander their way into the marble halls of Congress and The White House and they will continue to strip powers from the people as long as we allow it.

I am predicting — not advocating, just predicting — a violent revolution breaking out in America within the next twelve months and I think it will start in your homestate of Idaho. Adrainne and I talked many nights about the revolution coming to America and she knows well my reasons why I suspect it will be there in the Potato State that the first punches are thrown.

Wise to post on Facebook what I did? Hell, I don’t know. But what are “they” going to do to me? I’m just an old fart watching what is going on and telling people that the house is on fire.

If Uncle Sam wants to come after me, then I’ll grab the camera and get some images, because the most powerful country is the world is after me. Well, me and Edward Snowden.

Take care Tom. I appreciate your concern, I really do. If there’s a hereafter you and I have some catching up to do. Or, if I can make it back to the Shoshone Res before you and I graduate, maybe we can catch up then.
