Help Design the Book: Subte Linea A: The History

Well, after just about a year, the long dormant book is finally being revived.  The three key principles met to discuss what should be the next phase in developing the book and getting it into the hands of people that have been wanting to see it.

I was there mainly to listen, observe and throw in my grizzled two cents.  My beautiful “esposa”, Ale, was there to make sure I didn’t go too far off the deepend.

At yesterday’s production meeting, the idea came up about putting the Minister of Library’s name on the front cover.  He has graciously agreed to write the introduction to the book, so putting his name on the front cover made sense.

But not to some people.

Seems that some people feel that the Minister’s name on the book cover would engender too many people’s anger and force them into NOT buying the book.

What’s your thoughts?

  1. Is the book actually about the subway? If so I wouldn’t put the Minister’s picture on the cover – makes it seem a “political endorsement.” He ought to still write the intro if you believe he’ll do the book justice, and you can add a small pic of him at the end of the intro. Otherwise since you’re a photographer I’m sure you have many interesting photos that can be used as a cover. And, yes, sometimes I will buy a book based on who wrote the intro, especially if I’m not familiar with the author.

  2. The book is a collection of photographs of Line A of the Buenos Aires subway, the oldest, continually operated subway line in the world.

No one is talking about putting the Minister’s picture on the cover, just his name and a pull-quote from the introduction he wrote for the book.

The Minister of Library is no more a political position than is the Head Librarian with the Library of Congress in Washington.

Thanks for the feedback and comments!
