Two years ago, I had the opportunity to be embedded with vigilantes as they patrolled the dangerous border around Sasabe, Arizona. With human and drug smugglers using the desert between the border and Phoenix as a superhighway, there was no telling what we would get into. Indeed, I spent many nights just a few hundred yards where a Border Patrol agent had been killed.
